MATERA, THE CITY OF STONES
Matera(39 Km) is one of the oldest cities in the world, where it is possible to reconstruct the life of man, from the Paleolithic to the present day.
And ‘the city of the Sassi, the original urban core, developed from natural caves carved into the rock and then shaped into increasingly complex structures within two large natural amphitheaters that are Caveoso and Sasso Barisano.
The Sassi, the ancient districts carved out of stone, the entrenched villages and stone churches of the Murgia give the feeling of being in a crib and live in another era.
In 1993 UNESCO declared the Sassi of Matera a World Heritage Site.
